Basic Training
Speed and accuracy are a must in this line of work. At the end of street training, teams must score 490 out of 700 points on the final exam to be certified in the following areas:

Hey, you can see they don't hire just any dog for this job! A good nose, a sharp mind, and a fit body are necessities. Not to brag, but I think I qualify, and my partner is good, too!
Your parents might think they have long work weeks,
but Canine Corps dogs work 60 hours a week. We're on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You're probably saying to yourself, "Man, that is tough!"
Our handlers like to call our daily playtime "agility training," but we call it fun. These workouts keep us in shape, and it's great to socialize with my fellow K-9 officers in a professional setting. We are all guys in our unit now, but we have had gals serve in the corps, and, believe me, they are as tough--if not tougher--than us guys! |
